After years of blogging silence, the two unexpectedly show up in Mumbai, India!

Snowy Oregon along
the Deschutes River
Years ago, we were good about our blog entries. At one point, we switched to an Apple platform, but it was discontinued and that, combined with our move to China, saw the end to our posts. Blogging was difficult in China as most blogging sites were blocked (along with Google, YouTube, Facebook, The New York Times...the list goes on). Such was life in China. We were there for three years, and had many unforgettable experiences. We came home to the US, moved to Oregon, and were settling into a snowy life in Oregon with lots of family time.

Suddenly, about three weeks ago, we learned we'd be coming to India to finish out the school year. Three months in Mumbai/Bombay sounded like our kind of adventure!  What better way to record it than a blog?  So I dug around and unearthed our last posts. A bit of a gap in details over the years, but we'll pick it up here, a week into our three month stay.

Overlooking the Arabian Sea on the
west coast of India, Mumbai!
While Spencer teaches, I am working on many things to keep me busy. This week has been all about settling in and figuring out where to go for groceries and restaurants in our new home, Bandra West, Mumbai.

We're sorting it all out with the help of many amazing, supportive, and friendly people from the American School of Bombay. We've reconnected with friends we worked with in Peru and China, and I've been back in touch with a few client friends from our days in Arizona. We've even met my distant relative here in Bombay! More on that in the next post. It has been a great experience so far. This is shaping up to be an excellent adventure!

Bandra/Worli Sea Link Bridge

We arrived Sunday night, were met at the airport, given a brief intro to our apartment, and left to sleep. Monday we were both at school all day, for introductions to the school and staff. Tuesday and Wednesday, I was home unpacking and getting settled while Spencer was at school. Thursday, back to school with Spencer for a doctor check up and some needed shots. We're almost caught up - one more jab to go!

Friday, a holiday from school, found us walking along the Arabian Sea early to miss the heat. We walked to the tip of Bandra by the old Fort, and could see the Sea Link Bridge, which spans Mahim Bay from here to South Bombay. The afternoon was full of shopping and dining with new friends around our new home. Aside from an ongoing battle with jetlag that has us up at the wee hours of the morning, it's been an awesome first week!

More to come as we learn about Mumbai and begin to travel around India.

  2. Spencer and Anne - glad to hear that you've sorted out your visas and have finally made it to Mumbai. Looking forward to more posts and hearing about your time at ASB and in India in person once we get back to the States this summer! (I just finished marking my last economics portfolios! Another in a long string of "last times" ticked off before Mel and I leave Beijing!) Enjoy your new adventure!
