First Saturday Scenes

Last week held few photos as we were so busy getting our bearings that the cameras rarely left our bags. Fortunately, the weekend was different, and we took a few photos after our visit with Vina. We wandered downtown near her shop for a short time. Our walk was guided by a book of heritage walks on loan from a friend, and although we wandered as much as we followed the book, we saw some amazing buildings and sights. Hot and hungry, we went home with plans to return on Sunday for a more thorough look around.

The view of South Mumbai across Mahim Bay

I found the first of many outfits - at least that's my plan! This is pale blues and taupe in silk, and I think I'll get some in cotton, too. The women flow by in saris, kutras (tunics), and dupattas (scarves) of every color. The fabrics are light and cool, and the colors bright and lively.

Spencer left early for work yesterday, and told me about a photo shoot he saw on the nearly empty highway.  With a backdrop of the colorful sunrise and the sparkly sea, a woman stood in the middle of the highway with her salmon-colored sari breezing around her while the photographer snapped pictures. It sounded beautiful!

An arched walkway   and    double decker bus with black and yellow cabs.

OK - not a good photo at all, but two guys suddenly raced by at top speed on horses, right down the middle of the street!  I was surprised and hardly got the camera out in time to snap a picture. Obviously, not in time to focus or catch both of them! I think they were trying to get through by racing down the empty side of the street before the light changed - notice that half of the road is clear in most pictures. I guess the lights are set just so!
