A letter from Thailand
January, 2009
Hi everyone!!
Hope you are all well...we're at the international schools job fair in Bangkok. It has been crazy! First, we were trying to schedule interviews and worrying that since we are new to this international thing, we'd be out of luck. That made for a long day of waiting and worrying. In the end, we had a few job offers, so then we were trying to decide which path we should take. Our stomachs have been doing flip-flops - as have our minds. We've finally - and happily - decided on Lima, Peru in South America.
It feels good to have made a decision, and we feel lucky that more than one school was willing to give us newbies a chance. Lima has great positions for both of us, which was sort of a tough combination to find. For now, we have a bit of a wait ahead of us until everything is finalized. We signed letters of intent with contracts on their way when school goes back in session mid-February. Then we wait for work visas...not sure on the timeline for that. We'll have a look-see trip to Peru in June, and have to report at the end of July for teaching. We're planning to be there for at least 2 years, and hopefully longer.
We'd love to have visitors in Peru. Of course, if you want to meet in Buenos Aires or something like that, I am sure we could be convinced! We'll keep you posted on when we're settled-in, and have learned the ropes enough to actually be of use in showing you around. With nearly 2 months off mid Dec to mid Feb (Peruvian summer), and a month off in July (winter), those are good months to keep in mind when planning trips.
You can see a preview of our new adventure at Colegio Franklin Delano Roosevelt in Lima on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hvxucaPHRU
We look forward to seeing you all before we go, and as much as possible while we're away.
Lots of love,
Anne and Spencer
